Somewhere heading home

Three AM heading home, these streets lie wet and empty
As rain it falls here in a still lulled cold, the wind is silent on this night
Another early morning with distant street lights strung between a dark
For five miles of company on a glistening road, these taxis, buses finishing up
You know those trains they went to bed now long ago, walking home
What a winter night in a big city far from an past home for a country kid,
Six dollars an hour, it’s easy living a walk, nights walking five miles and sleeping days, sleeping days, then five miles back, nights, it’s a friend…
Somewhere, the Mansions, heading home, Annerley,.
