Last day, last songs as the sun goes down

Music as the sun goes down

Music as the sun goes down

Last day, last songs as the sun goes down

As the music here just fills the room

The roof above it’s long since gone

Standing up here from a bed

The old steel frame is all that’s left

Old split floorboards underfoot

A slow walk out to the porch

Many friends here jamming hard

Lifting music, songs here from the walls

Long the decades filling every rooms’

Surface, charcoal, faded words in lyrics

Music pages chiseled across tired floors

From days when dancing shook the piers

Here’s the last evening before destruction

As people arrive to sing, to dance the night

Here now to share our stories, our goodbyes

For we all must leave, depart before sunrise.

A poem about a building scared by music and lyrics, in a good way.

    • Reminds me of a good many places, and many old places just before they vanish after having long since being deserted of voices and the sounds of feet.

  1. I really enjoyed this – your words create images in my mind ‘Music pages chiseled across tired floors’ – gorgeous sweep of words.

  2. I’ve been catching your updates about abandoned buildings on Facebook. I love the way pictures and sounds conjure themselves inside old walls, just like your words šŸ™‚
