Missing Inlet

Missing Inlet

Ankle deep in tidal mudflats
Wandering marine grass lines
To a place where vertical at rest
Caulking complete, her fittings

Fastened, rigging new and ready
Just waiting on the tide, waiting
While early autumn snows begin
It’s fall, braid to a cool change

On last in morning’s wind
Chill saltwater rises, slow
Weight in pressing hours tow
Props ejected, now on her own

She listens to the entrance’s swell
Creep slow along deep channel
Escape free Missing Inlet clean, let her

Sails climb, billow, breathe upon each mast
No one final look behind, just a navigator
Set to chart a different world in tasks..
