Red earth living

I just want to wander these days, deep beneath a blue sky caught by the rays, Sometime after the storm I might wake, listening to the dirt, the dust kicking up from my feet, Roaming out here half lost between the tall with their leaves, waiting for the clouds to shatter, to break the short days free, being here out to walk the many miles to the sea, to hear the ocean sounds bounce back overhead from the trees, resting here on the sands to live, between the tidal rips beneath, oh the red earth, these places to breathe, like in the winds streaming their wild company, never to be lost between this old red earth, or the sea…

Kind of reminds me of walking the forty kilometres from here to the sea, thinking all the while, beneath the blue trees with their leaves, past the Berserker Mountains, across the coastal ranges, their plains, to the fringe of the reef. Kind of…

Sometimes I just want to remember, the way it was in the back of my mind, light slowly vanishing after a dust filled day, now just a red heart sun bending through the curves so far out there, hours fading as the minutes play, waiting for the night to ponder post a tropical haze in journey, where crisp sounds they wake through the grasses, scattered across the red dunes as the Antarctic winds blow, fine red earth caught all through your hair, tangled in the moment the back country shares, soon to be lent within the ways wake after day, as the desert night breeze dances, caresses your face, far beyond the tall blue with their leaves, a whole other place, just a little, out in the never never, lost…

I think sometimes I become a little little lost in what I write, this winter has been a little like that. But sometimes different things, images, remind me of all that I call home, and it’s a big place, so diverse, to be able to live anywhere upon its earth or waters…

    • Thanks Christy, lost without being lost is a good feeling to find within a scene, and its moments. Just watching now, how the trees are sharing that a light breeze is dancing outside today…

  1. A sense of nostalgia is always good for the soul.

Oh, I’m excited about your new theme. I love light colors, and your blog looks even more spacious now. I really like it, Sean.

  2. This one is quite emasculating. It’s the memories of the past that give insight into the future. Everyone needs on moment to reflect and you’ve articulated this in style.

    • Maybe sometimes I reflect too much… But the distinct two halves of the writing, are a reflection upon two separate photographs from a different country to where I live, and a comparison at the same time of the similarities. Thanks Uzome..

  3. OMG, THIS IS HANDS DOWN ONE OF MY FAVORITES!!!! I LOVE THIS, YOU TOOK ME ON SUCH A PEACEFUL WALK OUT TO SEA AND MANY OTHER PLACES, JUST WOW SEAN!! IT’S FUNNY, I BELIEVE WE WRITE ABOUT OUR SURROUNDINGS (ENVIRONMENT) YOU MUST LIVE IN SUCH A PEACEFUL JOURNEY. I’M GONNA READ THIS TOMORROW AT MY WEEKLY POETRY SLAM.

      • Loved it, the new draft I sent you should help to smooth the flow with slight restructures, and better punctuation for reading.. Have fun!

    • The above is such a rough draft on punctuation and wording, but glad you’ve been able to find the essence, senses to the poem. All the best with the read today (yesterday for me here) at the weekly poetry slam. I dropped you an email with the second draft of it, which has been sitting around here on the table for a few days… All the best!

    • It was a conversation about a couple of photographs, hence being reflective… Looking forward to some new writing from you, and can not wait..
